In 1962 a child caught a cold just before he was to go on school camp. In turn, his father devised a portable, easy to assemble and disassemble bed so that his son wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor. The bed worked a charm and the story might have finished there except that the concerned parent just happened to be Danish designer and artisan Ole Gjerløv-Knudsen.
More than 50 years later the delightfully elegant OGK Safari Daybed has become one of Ole Gjerløv-Knudsen’s most emblematic products. Made in Denmark by Skovshoved Møbelfabrik, the OGK daybed comes in a linen bag with a convenient shoulder strap. It is quick and simple to assemble, without the need for screws or tools. The simple frame is made of untreated beech and the cover is natural linen. The twisted sisal ropes are an essential part of the structure and double as a beautiful detail.
