A 1950s Finn Juhl Chieftain Chair FJ49 sold at auction for HK $1,937,500 (AUD $332,805) at Phillips  first 20th Century & Contemporary Evening Sale held in Hong Kong on November 27. Made by Master Cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, the rare and early Chieftain Chair in Brazilian rosewood and leather was offered for sale by the maker’s grandson, Niels Vodder Jnr, who was gifted the chair to mark the occasion of the start of his architecture studies at The Royal Academy in Copenhagen. Niels Vodder Jnr. estimates no more than 20 Chieftain chairs were made in Brazilian rosewood.
